School Governors - Who We Are

School Governors have an important part to play in everyday school life. The Governing Body is a group of volunteers who are responsible for supporting the leadership team in raising standards at a school.

At Langstone Infant Academy our School Governors are:

Dan Brentnall - Chair of Governors

I have been a Governor at Langstone Infant Academy for three years. I have lived locally for over seven years and I work within Portsmouth as a Systems Engineer. I enjoy spending time in the school and watching how the children progress through their school career. I am especially keen on children developing an interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths.

Nicky Ellson - Staff Governor/SEN

I have been a TA here at Langstone Infant Academy for the past eight years, starting as a 1-2-1 TA then a full time classroom based TA and now offer additional support to children both in and out of the classroom. I am very proud to be part of an amazing team here Langstone Infant Academy. I am also very committed to ensuring that all our children fulfil their potential. My role as a staff governor, the link between my fellow TA’s, the Headteacher and governing board, has proved invaluable to me. I hope I can be that friendly face at the classroom door that can help if any parent needs some advice.

Caroline Williams – Community Governor/ Chair ofStaffing, Premises and Finance Committee and Training Liasion

I have been a governor at Langstone Infant Academy for nearly three years and my current responsibilities are the School Premises and Finance Committee and Governors section on the school website. I have lived locally for 20 years. I enjoy helping, supporting and spending time at the school, learning how the school runs and how we can help make Langstone the best it can be and use my professional skills to help where I can. I am always glad to hear feedback about the school and I continue to work hard along with the rest of the committee to make sure that the children get the best start in life at school.

Debbie Wicks - Co-opted Governor/Chair of Learning, Attainment and Achievement Committee and Safer Recruitment

I have been a Governor at Langstone Infant Academy since September 2015.  I am part of the LAA Committee and currently the Link Governor for Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.  I have worked in education for over 20 years and have taught in Primary Schools in Warwickshire, Hampshire and Portsmouth.
I undertook the role of Governor because after working for the school for four years I wanted to continue to support the drive for excellence so that children have the best possible experience and academic outcome.

Gillian Heath - Co-opted Governor

I have recently become a Governor at the school. I am a Social Worker with a background in Child Protection and so I have a lead role for Safeguarding within the school. I use my professional skills to help make sure that the school is a safe and nurturing learning environment. I live locally in Baffins and enjoy being part of the local community. I have four adult children and two grandchildren - one of whom attends the school.
