Art and Design Technology Intent

At Langstone Infant Academy, we value Art and Design as an important part of the children’s entitlement to a broad and balanced curriculum.   We want the children to become resourceful, risk takers who can experiment practically in order to produce creative and imaginative work.  The children will develop an enjoyment of art and design, whilst becoming confident, innovative and proficient in a variety of skills, techniques and critical thinking.

With this in mind, we have developed three main aims that demonstrate the focus of our school.

• We aim to provide enriching, hands-on experiences for the children which will inspire and motivate. They are exposed to a variety of artists because it demonstrates to the children that art is unique and can be achieved and viewed in different ways.
• We aim to provide opportunities to explore existing products and how they work because we want to develop a sense of curiosity and a desire to experiment and adapt with various materials, tools and techniques.
• We aim to compare and discuss creative works and products using age appropriate language of art and design technology because it allows the children to reflect and improve upon their own ideas for future projects.
